Italian Ice grew into a champion at both GHF and TW, but the one track Icee loved most of all was the Wire. To start, as a juvenile Icee conducted the majority of her campaign at GHF. However, whenever Icee ran on the tracks here, she won. In fact, all five of the starts Icee made at TW as a juvenile resulted in wins, indicating early on her preference for this track and her ability to leave a lasting impression here.
Leave a lasting impression she did. Italian Ice became the Wire's first Canadian Triple Crown winner after placing second in the Belmont Turf Classic and switching her campaign to here. She proved herself to be indomitable in those attempts. What other thing can a potential Wire Legend do than set the example by becoming a Triple Series winner here, for the Wire's own unique three year old classic series? Though Icee still raced the majority of the time as a three year old at GHF, she left an impression here that no person could forget.
During her final season, Italian Ice raced solely at The Wire. Her only starts off this track resulted in her worst finishes for the season. If it hadn't been clear before, Icee certainly demonstrated her ability as a four year old. She won every race she possibly could, including a second Wire Finish Cup race, a Dawn Treader Cup and one race in the Risorgimento Series. She capped off the season with a win in the Breeders Cup Distaff over her favorite track.
In sum, Italian Ice won the Canadian Triple Crown as well as a Dawn Treader Cup, two Wire Finish Cup races and a leg of the Risorgimento Series. The previous poll showed Icee was dead even between being a champion and a legend. Since Icee is at least a champion, I decided to open up another poll dealing solely with the question of whether Icee is a Legend.
Icee won the most premier races at The Wire. She did things that should make her be considered as a Legend. Thank you for your consideration!
